Episode: The overall experience to Milan.
Monday, August 24, 2009

All of my classmates have ended their attachments and is getting ready for the first day of school. However for me, I was packing my bag for Milan. I was to join Outofstock Design a design company in Singapore for a design fair there for an exhibition.

The best part of going there is that a product where I played a big part in its design during my internship and it was going exhibited there.

I spent eleven weeks attached to Outofstock Design. The first nine weeks was spent preparing for an exhibition in Milan, which was known to be one of the biggest design fairs in the world.

During the nine weeks, I was given an opportunity to be part of the design process, where my ideas were considered and implemented into most of the products that made through to the exhibition.

I was assigned to design a press gift. In the end, the product was included in the company’s brochure as one of their collection during the exhibition. Named Offcuts ruler, the product was also displayed in the company’s booth at Fiera Milano during the six days exhibition.

Besides being at Fiera Milano, I was also given time to visit the city, as fair was not only enclosed within the expo. From Fiera Milano, to another exhibition space called Superstudio to the La Triennale di Milano Design Museum, the city is the fair.

When not in the fair, I manage to get a glimpse of one of the most famous buildings in Europe, the largest Gothic cathedral and the second largest Catholic cathedral in the world (The Duomo).

The reception of the fair was amazing and it was a great experience and opportunity for me especially having the Offcuts ruler among the ones being exhibited in the fair. The Milan design fair was really an eye opener for me. I wish to go there again someday, as an exhibitor.
