Episode: red dot design museum visit Saturday, November 1, 2008
Got up early today. Met Syafiq at Jurong. Then head off to Tanjong Pagar. Met Lee Peng and the rest soon after. We were at Tanjong Pagar, but was not going to the City Center, but the red dot design museum. I was looking forward to enter this museum ever since I knew about it. Now, I finally get to see what is inside.
At the reception, we had to get buttons so that we could be recognised as a visitor there over there. To me, this museum and designing gives me the ability to see the future. I guess that is why I like design.
This was what it looked like when we all entered the place.
There were even some primary school kids.
This was the bottle wall that was placed near the reception. It was awesome!
It was 11.30am. It was when the guest-of-honor arrived.
The Singapore Polytechnic's principal was there too.
Soon, it was time for the official opening og the exhibition.
Well, the exhibition was the fruits of a workshop. The workshop were the works of primary school students with designers. Even though the works were not that fantastic, it shows young minds do see the future, maybe even better.
This was actually a projection placed behind a border. It looks like a flat screen TV from a certain angle. What was interesting was that you can interact with it. You could flip the pages by waving your hand like flipping the pages. Nice!
I just like this lamp.
Actually that lamp was in this path that led us to the red dot area where it showcases the design awards. This was awesome pen. Just look at it.
Alright, well, all the exhibits here are all mass produced.
This, as you would see it, is a baby bottle.
Like these knifes.
Actually I saw this in a magazine. It was awesome to see it here. I wonder how it works..hmm.
A recycling bin.
These were actually the bottles up front. It was on the floor creating something like land.
I just like this painting.
I want this. An awesome clock that does not have a pivot in the middle or even a face. The hour hand actually rotates along its circumference.
Another one that really makes me go, "wow" was this bookmark. This bookmark is filed with air. The book squeezes the bookmark and pushes the air to one side. When you want to read the book, you squeeze the bookmark, opening the book with the air inside.
Other designs that caught my eye. This is play card. With this, you can make a paper gun and have fun when you load rubber band into it.
One high-tech name card.
This, I had to have in my future home. Take a look at the video below to know more about this.
There were even shops in the museum. Soon, I found out that anybody can rent a booth for only $60 a day and sell your stuff. Cool huh? I guess I could sell my zero-point ruler here. Ivan can sell his one pin. We could make a lot of money. Hehe..
Next was the concepts area. Everything here is not mass produced yet, but I really think they should.
You can have an exhibition without food. Haha. The food there was awesome. I ate quite a lot.
There were even éclairs. Lot of it. So, I took the opportunity to eat a few. Well, a lot. Haha.
I guess, they were the caterers.
We just walked around the place over and over again.
You like this? Well, I like it too. A bathtub that has lights in it to form graphics. Cool!
The clock that I like was actually at the concept area. Man, I really want this in my room.
It was already 1.30. I had to be at Jurong to meet my gal. So, I took the train and made my way. Soon, we got to the library. We were there to do up our GEMs assignment. Needed to find a power output there was quite difficult, as most of it are being used.
Soon, we got a power output and started doing our work.
Had some time with her after that. It was nice. I really enjoyed my time with her. Love you dear!
Got home at around 6pm. Now, work again. It seems never ending. I know that it is going to pile up sooner or later, so I am back doing my work, to reduce that pile.
