Episode : fun@workshop

Got to school at around 10am, stepped into my studio and grabbed my piece of wood and made my way to the workshop. The first thing I did was to do up my Communication Device by using the CNC machine. Soon, Carolyn came and reminded about our final beverage product. I had CRS test soon at 11, so I left her with the task of thinking of how to make our final beverage product.

CRS test was at 11, but the lecturer came slightly late. I had my foolscap paper ready and was set for the test. The whole feeling felt like taking paper 2 of O' level English. Ivan had his dictionary with him, during the test we practiced silence, but the only thing is that we were sitting close to each other while taking the test. When that paper was given, I fooled my classmates by telling them not to flip the question paper yet, just like an actual O' level paper. But in actual, when we get it, we can get started. I read the five available questions, it took me quite some time to pick one. In the end, I chose the one about following your dreams; is it a good advice. It was something like that. It also took me quite some time to think of what to write and how to start. In the end, I was the one who took the whole 1hr 50 minutes for the test. Some of my classmates left right after finishing their test. I think, I did alright. Well, we just have to wait and see. That test holds 40% of the whole module.

Then, when I got back, I saw Carolyn marking out some MDF pieces. It was to be cut out and pasted, to get a block for the CNC machine to start processing the final beverage product. Not only that, I saw this burnt piece of acrylic on the table. It was our presentation for the packaging design! While I was doing my test, they cut out the pieces, but due to the heat it created fire and as you can see, it burnt the acrylic piece.

Before we went for lunch, we cut out the pieces of MDF and pasted it. It will take some time for it to dry, so after that, we went for a McDonald's lunch. I stayed at the workshop and wait for Carolyn and Peiyu to get Paul and myself lunch. We ate at that workshop itself.

Then, I noticed this on the white board there. It seemed that my lecturer had wrote "cut queue" to my name and arrowed it up the list. This list was the queue list for the CNC machine to cut our communication device, and I was at the bottom of this list. To cut out using the CNC machine, it will take hours, but it requires us to get ready two things; the MDF piece and the Mayka model after doing our 3D modeling on Rhino.

What my classmates did was to put their name there first and most wait for their turn and only then they would get doing the two things required. For me, I did up the two things first, then I place my name on the board. It was the reason why my name is at the bottom of the list. I was actually waiting for my turn, thinking that my classmates had their work ready. But in the end, I cut my communication device using the CNC machine, thanks to Lee Peng who helped me speak up the the lecturer after complaining it to her. Thanks Lee Peng!

Anyways, I had my lunch. I had McSpicy meal. It was my favourite meal from McDonalds, well I preferred it when it was McSpicy double, but now it still taste nice. These are the amount of fries we had combined ( mostly I eat them). There seem to be a new chili sauce available at McDonald's. The packaging seem slightly different due to its change of colour. It is now orange instead of the usual yellow packaging. Look.

After eating, while waiting for my communication device on the CNC machine to finish its five hours task and the glued pieces of MDF to dry, we went to IMM Daiso. It was around 3 when we(Paul, Carolyn and myself) left school. Our motive was to get things for our work. I had to find those vitamin C tablets that could dissolve in water to simulate our design concept, Paul had to find something smooth for his work and Carolyn had to find fake fruits, so that its texture could be used as the bottle cap for our work. Before we go back to school, Carolyn showed me the fish spa. I find it cool and at the same time disgusting having your feet in a pool of water filled with dead-skin-eating fishes.

Got back to school at 5. By 5.30 I could see the the final product of the CNC machine's cutting. It cut out my communication device to perfection. I kept feeling the surface of the piece, as it was very awesome.

Then, we put in the block of wood that we pasted at noon, to cut out the final beverage product. At the same time, the presentation acrylic was re-cut and the laser cutter produced wonderful silhouettes of the bottle shape of the beverage we designed. It was for packaging design.

A lot of work was done and it felt great to see it getting done, but there is still many more works to be done and no time to slack. Well maybe just to blog for a while..hehe. Before going home, my group discussed about what we planned to do next when we meet again.

Got home, and reached my house at around 8.30pm. After bathing and eating, I continued on my work. I till have to do my part, while my group do theirs. So far, my group have been great! I believe we can do it and get to sell our concept convincingly at the end of the day. For now, back to work.
