Episode: field trip

I was doing my portfolio for submission when I woke up at 8. After a while around 9+, I made my way to school to print all my works. At around 12, I submitted my portfolio. It was not that good, as I have not compiled all my finest work just yet. I'll do this during my holidays. This was how the class looked like after our final submission.

In the other room we call the fish tank, my lecturer sets up our works for exhibition. I am still unsure when will the exhibition start. Only selected works are exhibited. What I do not understand is why the unfinished communication device by Glenn is there. I mean, there is still other works that is done. I talked to Glenn about this and he said maybe our lecturer wants to show those who are coming for the exhibition the capabilities of the CNC machine at our workshop.

Whatever it is, my communication device is exhibited as well as my Muji's zero point ruler. Both works I am proud of. I enjoy doing both of these works and wished that the communication device would be produced and sold some time in the future, and my Muji design submission the selected few to capture the attention of the judges and at least be shortlisted. Well, life is not a fairytale, and I know the chances are low, but I believe that those works of mine are strong.

At that time, Syafiq went over to the year one's studio to chill and since the whole of year two is going to have a design field trip today later at 2, he told me to give him a call when the year two's are going out.

Soon, our lecturers told us to go to the front gate bus stand near the studio and get on to the bus. When I was at the bus, I suddenly remembered that Syafiq was still at the year one's studio. So, I called him and told him to go to the taxi stand which is a different thing than where the rest of the class were. He was looking for his bag and things at that time and asked me where was it. How should I know, I did not touched it. Then, I spoke up in the bus asked who took Syafiq's bag, and Paul raised his hand. Paul should not have done so, it left Syafiq worried for a while. Then, he dashed to the taxi stand. Realising that we were not there, he called Glenn to ask the correct location. Then, he made his way.

At that time, the whole class had been waiting for him. When he arrived, the class reacted by cheering at his presence. Syafiq thought that is was a sarcastic reaction by the class and he got angry and sat alone.

Anyways, class one was dropped off at JTC, to a design studio called designexchange. Well, over there we were given a lecture on how the place runs and after that we had some Q and A session. Then, when it ended, we waited for the bus to arrive to pick us up. My lecturer asked who is interested to have our internship there, and it seem that I was the only one interested. Though it was a small design firm, I believe that to make it big, we have to start somewhere. And I believe that it was the place.

When the bus arrived, we went to pick up the class two next. Then we went to NUS design and environment building. We were treated to another lecture about the NUS design school's curriculum. This would be my second time being here, as Edwin our lecturer brought a few of us here that time. We had to wait for Edwin before we get to enter the design studio there. He arrived soon after.Over there, after the lecture, we got a tour of the design studio and the workshop. There were some familiar machine there. Machines such as laser cutting maching, CNC machine, vacuum forming and the one that I rarely use is the wood lathe machine. I yet to see the blow moulding machine. So far, only my secondary school has it.

We also got to view their exhibition works in this room. Great works are preserved there. Even our lecturer's work was there. I saw Edwin's work as well as Han's FDA's work which won the competition.

After which, we all took the bus back to our studio. Had a short briefing when reach back at SP, and these were for the selected 10 who volunteered to join this workshop on 1st September to 5th September. Soon after, I went home taking the MRT. I reached home at around 6. After that, I had some shut eye. Got up at around 8, had dinner and the rest of the day is as per normal.
